- Environmental Literacy Networking Project funded by EU Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance
- (EN) | YUVA established the Environmental Literacy Network (ELN) with partner Kyoto Club (Italy) as part of the Environmental Literacy Networking Project funded by the EU until the end of September 2023. ELN’s main goal is to strengthen dialogue and cooperation in the field of environmental education among CSOs and local governments from Türkiye and Europe. The project partner Green Balkans is a member of the ELN. This project will be built on the already established cooperation among CSOs and local governments in the network and will utilize some of the outputs developed, i.e. education programmes and the advocacy and policy paper. The novelty will be the expansion of this cooperation to the Black Sea Basin by inviting CSOs and local governments from the project locations to the network. A second novelty is the design and dissemination of a new education programme specific to the Black Sea Basin, and joint capacity building and advocacy for the enhancement of environmental sustainability education not only in Turkiye but also in Bulgaria and Greece. (EN), EU ecological network NATURA 2000 (EN) | As EU Member States, Bulgaria and Greece have an established and functioning NATURA 2000 network (N2K). As part of N2K, different parts of the aquatoria, coastal wetlands, rivers etc., fall within the geographical scope of the BSB Programme. They are subject to the Birds Directive (Council Directive 2009/147/EC) or/and the Habitats Directive (Council Directive 92/43/EEC). Being an EU candidate, Türkiye also has to cover the requirements for development of N2K and to guarantee the conservation of biodiversity of European and global importance based on these instruments. Ensuring good environmental education for the conservation of marine areas will provide a basis for the preservation of these areas in good ecological condition, both for those already designated in the Member States and for potential such areas in Türkiye. (EN), European Green Belt Initiative (EGBI) (EN) | The European Green Belt, shared natural heritage along the line of the former Eastern Bloc is to be conserved and restored, to function as an ecological network connecting high-value natural and cultural landscapes whilst respecting the economic, social and cultural needs of local communities. The maritime border areas of Bulgaria and Turkey, as well as the rivers Evros, Arda and Tundzha, which are border areas for Bulgaria, Turkiye and Greece and are included in the scope of the project area are some of the emblematic pearls of the EGBI. Transboundary cooperation between the three partners for the conservation of marine ecosystems, support the promotion and development of EGBI which is the forms a Pan-European ecological network and provides a significant contribution to European "Green Infrastructure".
